p12Athema L. Etzioni, DVM, MS, DACVP, is a doctor of veterinary medicine and Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists who currently serves in multiple roles in Alabama. She is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology at the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health, Department of Clinical Sciences, in Tuskegee, Alabama, which she joined in 2015. Dr. Etzioni is also a Veterinary Clinical Pathologist at Avid Laboratories in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Adjunct Professor at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, Associate/Relief Veterinarian at South College Veterinary Clinic in Auburn, Alabama, and Relief Veterinarian at Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. Volunteering experiences and causes include her work as a veterinarian at Macon County Humane Society and George Washington Carver Elementary Academy. Dr Etzioni has worked in research, academia, Government, Corporate, and Private Practice sectors of Veterinary Medicine. “I am also excited to return home to my alma mater. I have a love for clinical pathology and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge to help our students be the best they can be,” Etzioni said when she joined Tuskegee University in 2015. Etzioni, DVM, MS, DACVP, commenced her academic journey at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she completed her bachelor degree of science in biology and chemistry in 1997. Four years later, in 2001, Dr. Etzioni received her doctorate of veterinary medicine at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health in Tuskegee, Alabama, where she subsequently completed her one-year Veterinary Clinical Pathology Internship in the Department of Pathobiology in 2002. She then went to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, to train in the field of veterinary clinical pathology, and then at The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in West Lafayette, Indiana, where she acquired her master degree of science in veterinary clinical pathology in 2005. A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, Dr. Etzioni published an article called What’s Your Diagnosis in the Journal of Clinical Pathology. She is an avid reader of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Pathology Journal and feels that her success is attributable to her perseverance and family support.
